Hey guys,

I have an HP 430 with a Celeron B800 Processor. I plan on changing it to a much faster i3-3120M. Will the new processor fit the socket, and is it worth the change?

Do you have the specific part number or SKU for your notebook? I'll verify it if you do, but I believe your CPU is actually soldered to the motherboard, in which case you'd need to find a replacement motherboard with your desired processor soldered to it. If that's the case, I wouldn't bother.

Yes it'll fit. No it ain't worth it, if you really want to upgrade. If you just need a faster CPU for some general multitasking, no problem with that i3. If not, you wanna play games, do video rendering, it would not be ideal, because of low RAM.

NOTE: I don't think that model supports 800MHz RAM, you'll need to upgrade that too atleast 1333MHz.

Update: volcanoscout has a valid point too.

That should do just fine.

CPU's don't tend to be soldered, though they sometimes can be. Graphics cards tend to be most of the time.

If you want to upgrade, your best bet is to buy a new laptop, as if you decide to change the CPU but can't, and your forced to change also the motherboard which can be extremely expensive, you get to the situation where it's not worthwhile.
