Hi there,

I was asking myself if I should upgrade my cpu now since the lack of horse power of my current cpu becomes very noticable and . The only thing holding me back is the question "should i buy a Devil's Canyon chip now or wait for Intel's Broadwell?".

My current build:

AMD P2 X4 965 (4.2 GHz)
12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon HD7850

What do you think, should I wait for Broadwell go for a DC-k CPU now?

More about : upgrade wait

Really depends on the games you are playing. For cpu intensive games, its definitely worth it go with Devil's Canyon. Broadwell is still at least a year away for desktop and it is unlikely to be much increase in performance, intel is focused on lowering power consumption with it.

You'll probably only see 5ghz oc with Broadwell and the new Z97 boards that will be coming, despite lower power consumption and less heat. You can get that with DC with the right cooling solution. It is likely to have some new instruction sets but that may or may not affect your needs. Gaming mainly?

Yes, some video editing here and there but mainly gaming. And of course the joy of overclocking.

Well, if you get a Z97 board now and a DC you can play around with them as you like and then swap the chip out for a Broadwell when they arrive and sell the DC to somebody. The chipset will support both so you won't have to change that and they have the new PCIe interfaces so potential for faster pipes is there. There's a good article on these chipsets here:
