I have a homebuilt system, its pretty new, only a few months.

Every 2 days or so, I would turn on the plug box (connected to my pc, 2 monitors and a speaker set), and my electricity group would turn off. (I'm dutch, english is not my foreign language). I didn't know the exact problem but after I turned the group back on, the pc would boot normally. This morning I woke up, turned on the plug box. This time the group didn't turn off. So I was browsing youtube, and I wanted to charge my phone. So I took my controller out and put my phone usb cable in. Then I remembered, I have a special "phone charge" usb socket, so I took my usb cable out, and when I put my controller's USB cable back in, my PC turned off. So obviously, I tried turning it on again. But that didn't work. I tested the pc power cable with my monitor, and it was still functional. I tried to flip the PSU switch back and forth a few times, but nothing seems to do the trick?

What is the problem here? And how can I solve it.

Sincerely,

a desperate pc user

EDIT: My PSU is an
Cooler Master GM G550M
my CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K Boxed
my MoBo:
ASRock B85M-ITX

Solution
Well if it does nothing at all anymore its very likely the PSU was pushed to too high of a load, or simply it wasnt up to the given task at hand. The wattage is only half the story and doesn't necessarily correlate to build quality...Higher end Cooler Masters tend to be ok, but im thinking the PSU failed and thats why the PC no longer boots.

If you have another Power Supply to test with thats the ideal next step. Look into the warranty of the unit, see if it is covered.

so just to be clear, the PC no longer turns on anywhere? no matter which 'plug box' you use? regardless of room?

That's what I thought at first. But I pulled everything but my PC out of the socket, and it still didn't work.

plus, it still would kill the group once in a while

EDIT altough that would explain why the pc stopped working, when i put in the USB. But how can I troubleshoot this theory

have you tried the PC in another room?

I fixed it by placing an old 500W (brandless) psu in. I still don't know what caused the problem.
