Will a 500 watt PSU do for now?

Hello people,

I've just got a quick question, any help and advice would be appreciated.

So basically i'm about to start building a new PC, but for now I'm going to stick with some of the parts from my old pc including my RAM and GPU; these are:

Corsair 4GB XMS3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (1x4GB) - (DDR3)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti OC - 1 GB - (Gigabyte)

I also have a brand new 500 watt psu. The motherboard and CPU I intend to buy are:

ASUS Maximus VII Ranger
i7 4790k

Essentially my question is whether or not 500 watts will be enough to sustain this system in the short term? In a month or so i'm looking to upgrade to 8gb of RAM, and in several months, maybe at the end of the year, i'm looking to buy a GTX 770 superclocked.

At which point i'll buy a 750 watt PSU. But saving that £70 in the short term would be really beneficial to me at the moment.

Will 500 watts be okay or not?

Thanks!

There is no point buying an i7 K series and using a 560ti, it will not perform well at all for gaming as the GPU is quite poor.
An i5 4460 with a H97 board and a better GPU is a much better option for you. :)
What 500W PSU do you have?

Oops, didn't see this sorry!
Sounds great.
500W should be enough, but I need to know the exact make and model. :)

It's cool mate.

hi, thanks for the reply. The 500w PSU is:

It would only be short term. Perhaps as little as one or two months, but maybe more. I will likely overclock but not until I upgrade my graphics and ram, by which point i'll have a 750 watt psu.

Thanks. Yeah i'll hold back on overclocking for now. I'll bear that 750w psu in mind when it comes to buying it.

Thanks guys
