I'm building a computer for the first time, so sorry ahead of time if the answer is obvious. First, the specs:
ASUS Z87-PRO Motherboard
i7 4790k processor with stock cooling
4x 2GB, 1333MHz DDR3 RAM (Samsung M378B5673FH0-CH9 1032? Recycled from another computer, so not exactly sure)
ATI Radeon HD 5870 (again, recycled part)
Corsair RM650 PSU
Samsung 500GB SSD
A 1TB and a 640GB recycled HDDs
Corsair 750D Case
Two days ago, I went through and installed everything, and the system started up normally each of the four times I tested it (albeit, still no OS, but the POST went through fine and it output to the display).
Fast forward to today, the OS (Win8.1) arrived. I went to go turn the computer on so I could install the OS, but now nothing is output to the display and the system seems to be stalled in the POST. The motherboard ends up giving code 36, "CPU post-memory initialization". So I check to make sure all the cables are still properly plugged in, and I reseat the CPU. Now it starts up normally, and I start to install Windows. During installation, the system obviously needs to restart, but it again can't get through the POST (code 36). It seems it can't start up normally unless I remove and reinstall the processor each time. Any ideas what to do?
