Hi
I recently installed SpeedFan 4.49 on my pc to mainly monitor the temperature on my CPU but I'm getting these readings and don't quite understand them.
I have a quad core 2.33 Ghz processor

Can someone help?
Thanks

Confusedguy, you still with me or did I lose you? If it's too complicated you could just post all the temp readings and that would be fine. It just makes diagnosing problems easier if you can see all the other non-cpu sensor input as well. Here's another way you can do it. Go back into HWinfo and when it opens make sure neither of the two checkboxes are checked and click run. In the large summary window click on "save report" at the top left. In the next window select HTML and click next. In the next window, uncheck current user name and computer name and click save.

Now go to http://www.filedropper.com/index.php and click on upload file. Browse to C:\Program Files\HWiNFO64 and click on the .htm file you saved from HWinfo. It will then...
Uninstall speedfan unless you absolutely have to have it for controlling fan speed, which is doubtful. It uses outdated software and methods which myself and others here have seen cause issues. If you want to monitor temps get HWinfo and use the sensors feature. It's much more user friendly and is kept updated regularly. It will give you min, max and average temps for most monitored hardware. Recheck after monitoring for a while and then come back and post your numbers if you still need assistance. http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

Unselected solution. The temps that matter most are the CPU and CPU core temps. Yours seem kind of high for a stock rig unless you've got it under some kind of load. How long have you had this rig and have you ever had it open to clean the inside? If not, I'd turn the power off, pull off the left (From the front) side panel and blow the inside out with a compressor or can of compressed air focusing on the processor fan and heatsink and power supply internals.

Try to use the eraser end of a pencil or a plastic pen without touching other components to stop any fans from spinning up while you do so. Then blow any remaining dust from the motherboard and other components. Just accumulated dust in a processor or power supply heatsink can be enough to cause overheating or in some cases even failure. Don't try brushing out components as this can cause static electricity which can damage components. If those areas look fine though then power the unit back up and make sure all fans including any case fans are functioning. Let me know.

And all fans, including power supply, case and processor are functioning? Do you know what your BIOS and Windows fan settings are? I'd go into BIOS and make sure the fan speed is set on high (Because of your idle temps and for testing purposes.) Also make sure while you're in there that any Turbo features for the processor or OC settings, if any, are not enabled. (Again, for testing, you can put them back later.)

In windows, go into control panel>power options and whichever plan setting is selected there, click on change plan settings. Then click on change advanced power settings down below and in the next box click on processor power management. Click on system cooling policy and make sure under plugged in it's set to active. Then reboot, open HWinfo and allow the unit to just idle for about five minutes. Post the temps listed here and we'll see if there's been any change. Please post min, max and average temps for all CPU and Core related hardware.
