I recently have put together my first build. When I put my monitor into the graphics card I get no picture and it wont wake up. The fans on my graphics card(r9 280) spin. I also have plugged in my brothers monitor into my GPU and it still doesn't seem to turn on. Even though it works for him on his computer. Any Ideas? Do I have a faulty graphics card? Thanks

Rest of pc specs:

CPU: intel i3 4150
Mobo: Asrock h81M-HDS
Memory: 8GB kingston ram
GPU: R9 280
PSU: Thermaltake 550W
OS: Windows 8.1

Solution
Seems like a bad graphic card or could be the motherboard too. Could you do one thing, can you try removing your card from your system and connecting the monitor to build-in or integrated graphic card of the motherboard and see if you gets the display. Also try your removed graphic card in your brothers system and see if you get display. Post the results back here.

Hi

I have recently come into a similar problem when my computer goes into sleep mode the computer will look like it is waking up but the monitor doesn't come on. Resetting the power doesn't bring it on either the only thing that i have found works is if i remove my video card and use the onboard graphics. However when it goes into sleep mode then it wont come back on the on board slot i need to manually power down and reinsert my graphics card then it will work it just goes back and forth which leads me to think that it isn't the PCI-E slot any possible insight would be greatly appreciated as I can't afford to replace it at this time

Thanks
James

I'm not sure the make and model i could dig it out however i tested voltage and it has the correct voltage on all leads. I however did a little more research last night and found that it seem to get stuck in hibernation mode and even a power reset wont bring it out but i changed a few settings to make it go only into sleep and not hibernation and it seemed to work for now until i can figure out how to replace the hibernation file

thx
James
