By default, Realtek plays through the "Speakers" device which is my laptop's build in speakers. When I plug my headphones in, it doesn't change the device to "Headphones" in the system tray like my pc does. I want to set up different EQ levels for individual devices but I can't when it doesn't recognize them. In the control panel under "manage audio devices" the only playback device that shows up is the "Speakers" one. Even if I plug in my headphones "Speakers" is the only one that shows up. Realtek HD Audio Manager doesn't display it either. The driver is:
Realtek High Definition Audio version 6.0.1.7083

I fixed the problem, I tried updating the drivers to the latest version, problem persisted. Downgraded the drivers to the same ones on my PC and it worked. My Realtek sound chip must not be completely compatible with the newer drivers.
