I just finished putting together a new computer build. It has been working fine for a day, but earlier today it crashed with a BSOD and just a few minutes ago it shut down randomly with no error and BIOS said it couldn't detect a hard disk.

I shut everything off for 5 minutes turned it back on and viola it works...

Is it likely to be a bad (DOA) component or just a Windows config/driver issue. I was thinking maybe hard drive, but that passed a disk check. RAM?

The BSOD was 'system service exception'.

I am not overclocking anything at the moment.

System Specs:

APU: A10 7850k black edition
Mobo: Gigabyte F2A88xn WIFI
SSD: Cruxial MX100 512GB
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9B
Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D
PSU: Corsair RM650

I have had a beast of a time trying to get reliable temps from APU and motherboard but easytune6 (from gigabyte) is closest for motherboard temps read in BIOS. It says mobo is at 47 deg .C

AMD Overdrive seems to be only reliable option for APU and it is saying a thermal margin of 50-60C. From reading I have read that can't be converted to a temp, but that number is the distance away from a temp at which the apu will start to be throttled to lower heat.

Oops sorry, the RAM is patriot and it is 8GB (2x4) and 1333 MHz, don't remember the specific model nubmer, but is actually a few years old, does RAM go bad over time?

Well I am thinking probably SSD because I have heard those have a high failure rate in general is there some tool I can download to check entire ssd?

Although if it is the SSD i will be highly frustrated given the price I paid for the thing it ought to work.

I want to diagnose it ASAP so I can get a part RMA's if I need to.

Power surges, overvolting, static, are common killers of ram modules.
If it is an old module that required 1.65v or higher, could be a cause for BSODs.

memtest86 passed just fine. and disk check passed fine. Does the Windows disk check truly check the SSD or just check windows files? If just windows files then I need to find a different software to test SSD in its entirety.

Any ideas?

Further development... I left my computer along for an hour and when I came back it had gone to sleep. Upon pressing a key to wake it up the computer sprang to life, but the monitors stayed in sleep mode ??

I tried rebooting and no luck.

The way I had to fix it was going into BIOS and selecting hard drive as boot priority, then changing it back to windows boot manager. After that it booted, did a disk check, threw up some stuff about replacing indexed files and then windows booted up again.

All this seems to point to a bad SSD :/ really frustrating considering I paid like $200 for the thing and it doesn't even work. Guess Ill try RMAing it.

Ok, my computer is still misbehaving and seems to crash about once every other night. The scenario is my screens (I have 3 setup) all go full static/tearing almost (heard it called zebra striping before). And the computer just locks up and the only fix is a hard restart.

I am not really sure how to start debugging something like that. I mean I guess I can just return my SSD to Newegg and ask for a replacement to be safe.
