hi guy , sorry for my English in advance . . .

so i bought an asus n56jr laptop

8 gb ram
gtx 760m graphic
core i7 4700hq
1 tb hdd
no windows

i just installed a new windows 8 on it (it's now 8.1) and it is dreadfully slow !! it's even slower than my old laptop ! so what's the deal ? is there something wrong with it ? cuz i ran a couple of games on it and it goes through them like butter but when it comes to windows it sucks ! by the way i just got the laptop today , so other than drivers and a couple of basic app there is nothing else on it !! is it windows 8 ? cuz win 7 was always smooth sailing even on my crappy old laptop !! i don't know if it's windows 8.1 or hardware ?!?!
again i even ran Watch Dogs on it and it performed pretty good . . .

oh and something else ; i'm also using an 2tb external hard (western digital my passport ultra) could that also effect speed ? and before you ask , no i didn't installed any app on the external hard but it is half full of other stuff . . .

thanks in advance . . .

try putting your windows 8 usb disk or cd rom drive in your computer and booting up to it and try repairing windows.

If you did not install the drivers for that laptop, especially for the CPU and GPU drivers and that is the main cause why your laptop is not running on full performance.

And also, it is not advisable to run games on External HDDs as it does not have the same speed as internal HDDs. External HDDs good for storing, not running files.

i installed all drivers and double checked at asus website to make sure they're up to date . . .
no as i said didn't install anything on the external hard , just using it for storage and transferring my data to the new laptop . . .

As it is a laptop, go into the power settings and make sure that they are not on minimum. When I bought my new laptop, the power settings were on "power saver" and that made it run pretty slowly. You want to click on battery icon, then more power options, then advanced settings and make sure that "maximum processor state is on 100%.
