My priorities are that the contrast and colors look nice (so probably a IPS unless I'm missing something) since overall image quality matters most. I'm using this primarily for my PS4 (and some PC gaming) at my desk, so a good response time is obviously a plus, but image quality and reasonable price (prefer sub $300, but I'll make exceptions if necessary) are definitely the priorities.
I think I prefer the deeper image that a more reflective display tends to provide (I play in the dark anyway, so glare is a non-issue) but I may be imagining things there.
I currently have an ASUS VX279Q and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed at the overall image quality. I'll often connect it to my MacBook Retina for some games, and seeing the disparity between the rich colors and detail on the laptop screen compared to the grainy and flat image on the ASUS monitor is pretty frustrating. As I mentioned, I think part of it is that I prefer the deeper look of a monitor that doesn't have anti-reflective coating, but I could be wrong.
Basically, if I could have the image quality of a MacBook retina screen or Apple Thunderbolt display at 27 inches/1080p at a decent price I'd be all set.
