Issue with new motherboard and processor

I just installed a z97m plus mATX motherboard with an i5 4690k replacing the default mobo and processor of a dell studio 540, and I had installed a gtx650 and a better PSU previously.

With the new configuration, when the computer receives power, it briefly powers on, the fans spin momentarily, and the DRAM LED blinks red a few times. The first time it received power, it beeped once, but in attempts to start it after that, there were no beeps. I've attempted to rearrange the RAM (2 4gb sticks that are XMS3 by corsair) to no avail.

I suspect it's because the front panel connectors are not suited to this board, because the pins don't completely match, and the case is from 2009 while the board is new. Would I be correct?

Solution

Well theres you problem, its the case, that connector was only designed to work with the motherboard that came with the dell Sorry to say but your gonna need a new case unless want to jump it every time you want to turn your pc on.

I've already connected the front panel USB connectors to the motherboard, but the wire that comes from the power button and LED has a connector that is the same type as the USB ones.

Thanks for the help, it's what I guessed but I didn't want to go for it without confirmation. I wish I could have been a bit more clear, but I'm on my iPhone, so I understand the miscommunication.
