alright since its my first post bear with me here .. if you have questions shoot .

mother board = 0rf703
processor = q6600

bios i believe is 2.6.6 iirc

now i can not change a th9ing in my bios other then the speedstep setting ( which i have off to stay @ x9 multiplier )

i want to buy a spare processor and try to pin mod it to hold 1333

i havent found a very good guide on how this is accomplished

which brings me here .. anyone ever achived this mod with success?

Yes there is a physical mod you can do to your CPU to increase the FSB, as you have stated and are already aware of; this is known as the BSEL mod on socket 775. The mod bumps up the FSB of a 1066MHz CPU to 1600MHz and not 1333MHz.

To apply the BSEL mod, simply get some electrical tape and adhere it to two of your processor pins, like so (notice the brown tape on the bottom row):

Once you have taped those two BSEL pins, insert your CPU back in and enjoy the boost in FSB; it should be noted however that this mod may not be accepted by all motherboards, the only way to find out is to try it. Regardless this method is relatively safe.

All the best. :)

well thanks for the quick reply i appreciate it .. i tried taping just one pin right there .. guess ill have to rip it apart again and try two pins lol

think my stock cooler will be able to keep up @ 3ghz? im holding about 98f while running occt stressing it

98F whilst under a stress test is a solid temperature, I would have expected it to be higher to be honest. If your current temp is as you say, you should be fine with the stock cooler and an overclock. You don't have to worry about replacing your cooler with the temps you're getting. ;)

The Q6600's clock multiplier is 9 and the stock FSB is 1066MHz (1066 \ 4 = 266.5). At 1333Mhz (333.25MHz base clock) your CPU's frequency should be approximately: 333.25 * 9 = 3GHz. However the BSEL mod I've illustrated should bump up the FSB to 1600 (400MHz) hence your CPU's frequency should be at a shocking 3.6GHz.

I've noticed that certain users are able to boost to 1333MHz by applying the BSEL mod on only one pin, but I've not had experience with that to be honest. By applying it to two, the FSB should be increased to 1600Mhz.

All the best anyhow. :)

hmm well i must be doing something wrong then .. i took it apart just now .. took a very small piece of electrical tape and covered two pins as shown above .. and my comp wouldnt even boot .. the power button turns orange and does nothing .. once i remove the tape however .. the light turns green and i boot normally

so this thing is stuck here @2.4

ive come to the conclusion that i need an optiplex 755 ( 1333 fsb or 760 can go out to 1600 fsb?

can someone please confirm?

im gonna buy a barebones from a computer salvage place in town here .. but id like to know for sure which one is going to work .. so if you have done this before .. please help
