Cost of Replacing CMOS Battery Samsung Notebook R580

Samsung R580 notebook 4 yrs old used primarily for Word docs, CMOS battery died and can't get beyond black screen (no blinking cursor even). Hope that's all that's wrong. I was told that even tho CMOS part is cheap, labor would bring replacement job to minimum of $150, and jostling a laptop over a 4 yr old period makes the machine old & other parts might go. Is that a reliable estimate...is buying a refurb Win 7 laptop an option?

If you see nothing when you turn on your laptop, I doubt the CMOS battery is the ultimate reason. If the CMOS was bad, you would get a message about that, your laptop would start, show wrong date etc, but at least start. Without anythng on the screen, I am afraid you have much bigger problems than a COMS battery.

Thank you. I don't feel confident opening up laptop. 1) How much should it cost to have a tech replace CMOS?; and 2) I understand that my computer clock was slowing because of CMOS, but what about the fact that there is no LED HDD light on? Would the CMOS battery affect that as well?
