Extending the antenna of a Wireless Network card

My wireless router is in one room and the desktop in another. These two rooms are separated by a solid brick wall. The wifi signal available in the room where I have the Desktop is pretty weak. The router (Linksys EA2700) does not have an external antenna. Shifting the router to the another point at home is not feasible. The only solution I could think of, is to drill a hole in the brick wall separating the two rooms and extending the antenna of the DLink DWA-525 card that I have in my Desktop.

1. Is this a possible solution?
2. What are the factors I have to consider before setting this up?

Thanks for the suggestion. But the router is supplied by the ISP. I do not have the option to change it.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is not possible to leave the ethernet cable connecting the router to the Desktop through the hole in the brick wall, along the floor. It has to be along the perimeter of the wall and properly fixed with tacks. This increases the cost of the project.I can avoid all such hassles if I am able to extend the length of antenna on the wireless network card.

Thanks for all replies. I drilled a hole in the wall to draw a patch cable with RJ45 from the router to the desktop (15 metres). All though the hole was not a wide one there was a considerable increase in the signal strength. I now have both ethernet connection and wifi. :) Thanks once again.
