I am trying to re-install windows 7 from a boot able usb.
I downloaded an iso of windows 7 and put it onto a USB and made it boot able using Rufus. I have formatted my HDD by using commands in the windows 7 installer ( basically clean disk which resets all values to 0 ) then booted my PC off the USB ( with only my HDD and the usb plugged in ) which are both plugged into my motherboard.
basically this: http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/how-to-do-a-clean-install-of-windows-7-8.
( also tried using the windows version of this program to create a boot able usb ).
Got upto the step where it asks me where to install it, i choose the drive and it says " Setup was unable to create a new system partition".
I tried downloading a different iso for windows 7 but still the same problem.
Tried plugging my HDD into a different PC ( this other pc works prefectly fine ) by booting up the other PC and using that to install windows 7 onto the HDD which worked. This means that i could install windows onto the HDD just not directly ( but this doesn't solve my problem since i have to leave the HDD in the other pc to use it).
summery:
I'm trying to re-install windows 7 from usb onto my formatted HDD, BUT i can't directly install (with only one HDD plugged in as it says i can't after i select the HDD and press next but i could install it from another PC from that pc's OS ( but this isn't a solution since installing windows with other HDD/SSD plugged in is a bad idea). please help been at it for days. Also, i would also like to know how to remove the extra files from the second PC as it now prompts me to choose a OS on start up.
PC Build
Original OS: windows 7
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
Processor: Intel i5 quad core 4 cores @3.2 Ghz
Video Card: Radeon HD 6850
HDD: Seagate ST500DM002 500GB
The problem happens when i install with one HDD even when plugged into secondary pc with no other drives plugged in( also custom ) so i was thinking it's a problem with the HDD
Thought the iso could be corrupted but it does work when using another HDD within another OS.
(buying a new disc is a last resort as it costs alot but i do have the code )
