How much power does the R9 290 pull?

On anandtech's review of the 290 here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7481/the-amd-radeon-r9-290-review/16, it shows power consumption upwards of 400 watts when overclocked. Is that number the total system power being drawn (every component added up)? Or is it the 290 individually?

Solution

The M12II will run it easily. Very high quality psu.

That would be the entire system.
Although, you wouldn't want to buy a PSU as low as 500W for a 290. 600W or above would be much smarter as it won't push the limits of the PSU, and the PSU itself will stay nice and quiet, and at it's optimal efficiency.
Hope I helped. :)

Ok. I have a Seasonic M12II 620 watt. Can I overclock my 290 and my i5 3570k? Will it be safe with that power supply?

If you look at the fine print at the top of the graph it says total system power, that will be measured at the wall too, so actual load on the PSU will be a little less.
Theoretically though you could exceed those numbers by hammering the GPU & CPU at the same time, the furmark test is GPU load only.

Yes! That's a great PSU, and you won't have any problems overclocking both of those components.
What 290 do you have? :)

If i was to run prime95 for CPU and furmark for GPU while both overclocked, how much power max would the system pull?

Thanks alot bro. I was really uneasy about this stuff. I feel much better now knowing I have so much overhead. I'll overclock both of them now.
