Hey everyone, I have a 6 year old dell desktop which has a pci-e 1.0 slot and 4GB ram with a Intel core 2 quad 2.3ghz (q8200) and currently i have been using a powercolor radeon hd 4870 1gb and it is starting to struggle and the directx is outdated so i need to upgrade it. I know my rig is old but i need to sort that another time so what graphics card would you guys recommend as it only has a 1.0 slot and old components?

I was thinkin a decent r9 270 of some sort as it supports new directx?

thanks

The R9 270x is a really good card. In future future if you do need a more powerful card get another 270x and crossfire it.. if you plan on using a multimonitor setup or going for a 1440p...

You should face a little bottleneck.. but not that bad.. i suggest you upgrade your PSU, as the card requires more watts and consider a ram upgrade to 8 GB if you gonna play the latest titles

If you wanted a new GPU, you'd need to upgrade everything since you're hardware is very old. R9 270 would run find on PCI-E 1.0 but it would be bottlenecked by the CPU and the very small bandwidth that the PCI bus has. So if I were you, I'd go save for a new computer build.

Hi thanks for the reply. I did upgrade the psu to a 750watt job which ran my other card great so that should be fine and i agree with the ram but ive yet to upgrade my 32bit windows 8 so atm 4gb is all i can use, any ideas for cards? only reason i suggested the 270 is i need a card i can use for now but also take out and use in my new rig next year.
