Hi.
Everything yesterday was just fine...
but when I tried to start my pc this morning the IDE detection had a long time and the pc did not see my WD5000AAKS 500GB HDD but only the dvd rom ..
The pc did not even put the world "none" instead of the hard drive model but nothing !
I mean the line looks like this :
primary IDE master:
I tried to restart pc .. nothing !
I tried the hard on another computer the result was the same .. nothing!

Is there a software helpfull in this case even if the HDD not detected by BIOS ?
Does putting the HDD in freezer help ?!!
what Can I do ?

It looks like your HDD main board is gone , to be more sure try to listen to the HDD while turning ON your PC.
is it spinning ? is there any ticking sound ? if its not spinning or if there is no ticking sound then you need to replace the main board of your HDD with similar one from the same model WD5000AAKS , its easy to replace but its hard to find one.

if you have a friend has the same model as yours you can borrow the main board from him just for the recovery process it won't affect his data as long as you take care while replacing.

If its ticking then you better go to a professional data recovery.
DO NOT put it in the freezer you will loose any hope of recovery if you did that, Trust me I tried freezer more than one time even with perfect isolation all went down the garbage.

Thank you again..
but you didnt answer my question ..
Is there any software can be used to try to access this hard drive even if it is not detected by BIOS ?
One more thing , where the idea of putting broken HDD in freezer to recover it comes from ?!
Regards...

I don't know any software that can help you with this case but keep asking maybe there are one out there.
As for freezing the HDD it comes from the concept of metal shrinking when you cool them, if the problem was with the spindle / head or platter , shrinking the metal may align the spindle or the head , so you can recover as fast as possible before the HDD starts to warm again, you got one shot and very small probability of recovery.
Why its not successful its because of condensation will probably destroy the platters before you even start recovering.

A straight board swap is very unlikely to work. That's because each PCB has unique, drive specific "adaptive" data in flash memory. These "adaptives" need to be transferred from patient to donor.

There are tools such as SeDiv, WDMarvel and WDR that can access a bad drive under some conditions, but these are potentially very dangerous. Visit the HDD Oracle forum for more information.
