Hi

I am trying to downgrade a friends Asus X551MA from windows 8.1 to Windows 7. After much messing about i finally figured out how to get the bios to boot from cd/usb. During installation it crashes BSOD. Error message refers to the BIOS. I looked online and reference to using Rufus to create a UEFI bootable windows 7 image on a USB but this also crashes with exactly the same error message. I have run Memtest86 and results were good. I also tried installing NT which starts to install and then the screen goes weird like your loading a spectrum game. I also tried xp,xpsp2 and xpsp3 they all get the same error message as windows 7 except with an extra paragraph about pressing f7 to turn something off. Any ideas guys??? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Ive downgraded so many times before and on many different brands of laptop/desktop and never before encountered this issue.

How to install Win 7 on ASUS X551MA

"Thanks for your reply. Originally i wasnt even able to get it to boot from usb or cd. To sort this i updated the BIOS with the latest firmware from Asus website (v510 i think) using winflash utility. Then i, as you say, disabled secure boot and enabled "launch csm". It then let me add boot options. These are the only mods to the BIOS i have made..Regards."

Hey ChezofDamoor!
I am currently sitting with the same problem as you, I just bought the ASUS X551 MA-SX030D from a vendor without OS, and I am going to install Win7 Home Premium on it.
At first, it booted well from the Win7 install disc but halted with a bluescreen and prompted that the "BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant, needs updated BIOS for...

Hey ChezofDamoor!
I am currently sitting with the same problem as you, I just bought the ASUS X551 MA-SX030D from a vendor without OS, and I am going to install Win7 Home Premium on it.
At first, it booted well from the Win7 install disc but halted with a bluescreen and prompted that the "BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant, needs updated BIOS for Win 7, contact the manufacturer" etc.
So I downloaded the latest BIOS version from http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=557&m=X551MA&os=&hashedid=n%2fa
chosing Win 7 64 bit... the latest BIOS now is 510 with 2014.07.13 update.
Next step is to put the BIOS file on a USB flash drive, unzip it and put it in the root directory of the flash drive for easy access.
Put the flash drive in the laptop and turn it on, hit F2 button as soon as you see the ASUS logo.
You then go into the BIOS setup mode, where you can choose Advanced>Start Easy Flash>Enter. Select your USB flash drive>Select the BIOS file and hit <enter> again.
After the BIOS upgrade to 510, check the settings for CSM in the BIOS menu:
Boot>Launch CSM = Enabled
Check that the Secure boot is disabled:
Security>Secure boot = Disabled
Check that the correct OS is selected (and this is where I had trouble, even the ASUS support couldnt provide it, but I found it myself quite easily):
Advanced>OS Selection>Choose Win 7 instead of Win 8.x !!!!!

Eureka! It worked! Now I can boot from my Win 7 disc and the Win 7 installation continues _without_ the bluescreen!!!
Sharing is creating, good luck with your installation!

Best regards, Pallando

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I eventually figured it out doing exactly what you suggest. However i did encounter another problem. When i eventually got the windows disk to run i deleted all the partitions but the windows 7 install disk would not install to the 0 partition. To solve this i had to "shift"+"f10" and select drive 0 and "clean". It then installed perfectly. also on the asus website the windows 8.1 drivers seemed to work better than the windows 7 equivalent. Thanks to the people who responded its appreciated. regards. Paul
