Looking for a CPU cooler

Ok so the stock cooler for AMD's Fx-6300 works fine when doing normal things and playing some games, but once I start playing heavy games like battlefield 4 I notice the temperature sky-rockets and I want to invest in a new cooler. I'm not too sure what cooler to get for my needs and that will fit.
The case is the Fractal Design Define R4.
Also my ram has heat fins.
I plan to overclock in the future aswell :)
(I am not too confident with water cooling because of leaking, unless you can convince me otherwise)

Thanks in advance

Edit: The budget is £50

Have you tried something simple to start off with, like changing the thermal paste? Thermal paste can get old and dry and be not as effective. Do you have all of your memory slots filled? If not, you could go with something such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Or you could go with a sealed liquid cooling unit such as the H100i from Corsair if you are worried about leaks with water cooling.

What is "skyrocket"? Are we talking temps like 60C? 50C? 70C?

I've only been using it for 2 weeks and I brought Arctic Silver 5 compound and applied it after I wiped the stock compound off so yeah

60-69'C

If you have tall heat spreaders on your ram I would recommend an all in one water cooling unit. The corsair h80i has five year warrenty I think as well as the corsair link technology it will fit in your case also

Thats pretty warm, but the stock cooler is designed to keep it below throttling temps at stock frequency. They don't care if it makes noise. For over clocking I do think the H100i would be pretty decent. Any idea how much you want to over clock?

If your budget is £50 I recommend the zalman lq310. It is a thicker 120mm that has been recommended by pcgamer several times. It has a 3 year warrenty and very thick and high quality tubing

A refurbished H60 would do well too.

Evo 212. Any other "block" cooler won't do much better for a bigger price until you get to the NZT Phantom range.

All-in-one liquid coolers, are ok, but in reality, not much better than a air cooler, and using an all-in-one liquid cooler, there is no more fan and big chunk of copper right near the MB, which also cools the VRM's, which get really hot with a AMD chip. I bought an AIO cooler and regret it. Ya, I can OC my CPU fairly high and keep it cool, but I have to add all kinds of extras fans on my MB now to keep the VRM's and SB cool. Negates the purpose.

True but in the fractal define r4 there are fans mounts right on top of the motherboard so that will be fine. The cpu will always run much hotter than the motherboard so that should be your main concern. Also the hot vrms will never bottleneck your system except in extreme conditions where you have barely any fans.

Thank you for your insight, whats the noise like on the 212 evo? I'm trying to keep my pc as quiet as possible. The cpu fan is probably the noisiest thing in my case currently which is another reason I want to replace it

It is one of the more quiet coolers out there even under load. I really do not notice the sound of it over the background noise of my room.

Awesome, can I buy other fans to go on it? Do they have to be made by cooler master? Also do the fans just clip on?

I use all Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition PWM fans in my case. I use them for case fans and I also put another one on the Hyper 212 Evo for a push fan. The fan that comes on the Evo is pretty quiet and works well enough so it really does not need to be replaced. There is a mounting clip that comes with it. You put sticky rubber pads on it to reduce vibration and then you screw the mounting clip onto the fan. The fan then clips onto the Evo. Very easy to do.
