XFX R9 280 Poor Performance

Hello, I recently got an R9 280 as an upgrade from my 7850, however, I have found that in BF4 the card is actually running worse than the 7850, I still have to run on medium settings at 1080p, with a lower FPS. I'm running an AMD FX 6300 at stock speeds.

Why is this?

Also, here is my 3d Mark scores which seem to be below what other people with the same setup are getting. Note that it says it's a 7950, which it essentially is.

Looked at firestrike and it gives some weird scores anyway,i would take it with a grain of salt,Maybe the motherboard plays a role as well.Does your ram really only work at 1333mhz?

There are guys with similar systems that do worse,

if you look at "results" (top right) and seach for the r9 280 it won't get found so others have the same issue on that part too i think.

Wait for driver updates and see how it does then.Try some overclocking to see if it helps,just don't overdo it

Both cards are AMD, and people are getting much higher benchmarks with the 6300 on stock, there must be another issue?

Also, my GPU usage when playing BF4 was around 95% while the CPU was at around 60%, how is it limiting it?

If upgrading the video card did not help, you are CPU limited.

I can't see the 3DMark page at work, what scores did you get?

Is a clean Windows setup an option for you? That may be a good thing to try, new Windows, new driver setup for video and other components.

I got an SSD a month a go and fresh installed Win8.1 on that, so I hardly have anything on it.

FireStrike: 5078

Only BF4? Probably a driver issue.
Did you update the bios if there's an newer one?



What do they have or get for scores? Are their cpu's overclocked maybe?

Firstly, sorry for all the quotes, I'm on my mobile and it's difficult to get rid of them.

Some of the CPU's are overclocked however some are not, some only have a GPU overclock and get 1k points more, I was planning on overclocking my GPU, should I see if I can replicate the results by doing it?

Also, my driver is updated to the latest non beta, 14.4

I'll try updating my BIOS tomorrow when I get chance.
