You should get something that costs as much as what you paid originally for GTX580...
When my 8800 died, I got GTX280, which was a hell of a bump (in your terms think suddenly getting GTX780 for free).
Ofc maybe I was just lucky or MSI felt generous, but that's what happened for me. (Although it died in one year and then no warranty anymore

I would assume it's either a 660 or a 760 since those seem to be close in performance (via the Hierarchy Chart)Shadowblade2652 said:
Or,You could get scammed (highly doubt it though, I assume your card is still under warranty?).
Get a 750ti lololol
Yeah I wont accept that low tier of a card. My 580 has a lifetime warranty and the RMA got approved, I'll be happy with a 670 or a 760, my 580 was a high tier card, I'd expect something similar.

I doubt they would replace it with something lower tier. Thats just not how they keep customers. Thats something you can contact their customer service about just for peace of mind while you are sitting there waiting.I just called, the guy was a huge dick and basically said "if it performs the same what do you care what card it is" so basically he's saying they could send me a piece of shit card but because its technically better it's okay

That's a pretty dick answer.
My representative was really nice.

Well if it performs better what's the problem? When I bought my card it was a great card, I'd like a replacement card that is also a great card, something I'd actually considering buying
I'm also not sure how they figure out performance, is a 750 technically better than a 580?
No way,
A 660TI is probably around where the 580 is. 760 is a bit higher performance, and 770 is if the person handling your RMA is drunk.

Well if it performs better what's the problem?"Perform" is pretty vague.
They could just send him a cheap really hot and loud reference cooler AMD card and claim it's "similar performance"
Wouldnt be very nice now would it.
I'd say if it gets the same performance then I see no problem.
Also,
EVGA doesn't make AMD cards.

I'll go to the liquor store and use little bottles of booze instead of packing peanuts when I send my card in

EVGA is known for good customer service, none of that BS...He just kept saying "one of similar performance" without giving me any examples. Then said "what do you care if it performs the same"
actually I'm curious,
what DO you care if it performs the same?
I just don't want to end up with a cheap card I'd never go out and buy. 660ti is the lowest I'd be happy with, otherwise I'll go buy an 800 series when they release

660TI IS the equivalent of your card lol
I have one, it's a great card for the price and it's going down in price quickly.

Don't let them ride you!
If you have a receipt from original purchase you should demand a replacement of equal monetary value NOW, if they can't find a replacement 580, it's not your problem.
If a product was worth $600 they need to send you either the same card as original or a product that is worth $600.
Don't let them send you some $250 junk. Don't worry about them, they make more than enough money and it's their problem they sold you shit to begin with.
Theaten to sue and make bad publicity if you have to! It's your money they took in full.

No I mean I figured they stopped production of it.They probably did.
But it's not like they're gunna toss out their old cards, especially when those cards still have warranties in effect to old customers.
I guess SOME do remove their old stock, but I think that'd be a waste of money to just give you a new tier card they actually have to make.

So just to report back :
LONG STORY SHORT- i contacted them with my displeasure with the 470 replacement. The rep said the price didn't matter, performance wise it was a bump up , true but its still a dead product line. I cant buy another to sli it is not of the same tier even for the generation it comes from nor the same value tier , the rep only answered to the price point , so i elevated it to the email he gave me if i was still unhappy with a higher up rep. I went into detail more about the value of giving me an already aged well known problematic card that wasnt much on par even in its time with my card even if it can perform on par or better simple architecture doesn't account for the actual hardware im trying to get replaced obviously a dx11 card will be a step up its about the hardware here not what it can run , anyways LONG STORY GETTING LONG
they next rep up agreed it was still a good performance match but he would step me up to an actual current card to satisfy me as i am a pretty good customer ( have several products registered with them refer people to buy evga etc) so they would bump me up to a GTX 760 and this ends a happy story and i could not be happier. Although i have to re-enter into the RMA process from the start now as the 470 will get to me tomorrow but they will pre pay ship for the resend! and this is the whole reason i always buy EVGA and the first time ive ever had to RMA in nearing a decade of buying them.
