Hello,

I have posted earlier about my old PC Mobo/CPU/PSU dying and so I've decided to upgrade to an AMD FX-6300 processor with 4GB of Gskill RAM. I am trying to keep my budget low so I was looking for some advice on which motherboard to get. I am looking to spend <$100 on a motherboard, but can go a bit over if it is really worth while.

The tasks I will be doing is:
- Computations in software suites like MATLAB
- programming in Visual Studio
- A bit of gaming on a 24" monitor (Guild Wars 2 level for the moment)
- Some overclocking since the CPU is unlocked

I also have a Scythe Ninja aftermarket CPU cooler I would also like to use.

So far, I have considered the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P, the ASUS M5A97 for the budget ones, and the ASUS M5A99X and Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 for the higher end boards. I have no intention of doing SLI/Crossfire.

I will also be using this power supply (430W EVGA): http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438015&cm_re=evga_430w-_-17-438-015-_-Product

Thanks for all the help :)

EDIT: I've done a search for similar threads but most are a bit older or are gaming-specific requests

If you don't think you will need the extra features of the 990 chipset, then absolutely.

Hmm, the board is $110 in Canada, only $10 cheaper than the ASUS M5A99 and Gigabyte 990 so I'm not sure if its worth it since it is a 970 Chipset. The board does look REALLY nice though haha

Thanks, I guess I don't need the 990 Chipset then

You recommend I go with the MSI over the ASUS board then?
