I'm going to upgrade in the next to months and i'm looking to get a single r9 290x GPU,

what do you think is the best one?

I will eventually be doing a open loop cooling system for all my gpu and cpu.

thanks

If you're going to replace the graphics card's cooler then all should work fine.

The Vapor-X cards are great when it comes to cooling and OCing. I'd say the best. Just a little demanding on the wallet.

If you are going to apply water cooling anyway, then just get the cheapest one you can get, really.

No point to pay for Vapor-X if you are going to pry that cooler off anyway and if you do it, then you void warranty anyway, so no point in factory overclock either.

"Best" R9 290X are the MSI Lightning and the ROG Matrix, the second being quite expensive.
Both feature stable phases and good quality custom components for the PCB as well as good cooling solutions and overclocking capabilities.

One uses water cooling to extract a bit more performance by overclocking the component.

I think it makes more sense to use those cooling dollars to buy a part that is intrinsically faster in the first place.

Why not buy a GTX780ti superclock and be done with it?
