er
Before you do anything: Download GPU-z and save both BIOSes from your GPU in 2 separate places.
I always name mine like "vendor/model.ORIG" ex:xfx797orig1.rom
1) Make bootable USB DOS drive: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/46707-ms-dos-bootable-flash-drive-create.html

2) download the appropriate ATIflash: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2306/atiflash-4-17/mirrors

3) put the BIOS and atiflash onto the usb

4) Boot to the USB stick and type "atiflash -f -p 0 (biosname).rom

If it bricks it..hit the switch..boot with the good BIOS..boot to usb..flip switch back to "bad" bios..and flash a good one :)

OC potential is not based in the clock base, is based on the component capability himself. Assuming that having a higher based clock doesn't mean that you could go higher at the end.

Remember the 1st Titan generation? Excellent stock clock, higher ones....but in overclock was a total fail.

So...

You use flash way...get the "higher" clocks and loose the warranty, or, use overclock, learn a little more and keep the warranty.

You still have flash your BIOS..
..and play with the tdp limit n stuff

tbh..OCing a GPU doesn't bring massive gains..4-6 fps or so
but if it's throttling n stuff..the above link explains how to fix that.

Having a high-IPC CPU brings the most gains in FPS.

The only thing that could go wrong is that you get a blue screen, your screen freeze or you have to reset your rig. Beyond that, you won't see your GPU "blow up" or anything like that.

Just install MSI Afterburner or AI Suite (I prefer Afterburner), set a fan profile and star to rise the core clock in little steps, test for some stability with games and keep that process until you hit the wall. Do the same for mem clock.

do you have a water block and are you trying to unlock a higher core voltage? your asus is probably using the crappy digi+ asp1212 voltage controller which is voltage locked which would make it a bad choice for overclocking from a water cooling point of view.

not many manufactures will honor a warranty after a bios has been unlocked, whether or not you continue to flash the bios is beside the point... they will know if its ever been unlocked so flashing the original bios back wont cover any tracks.
