I am using Lenovo Ideapad y510p with OS Windows 8. Config - i7, 8GB RAM. I have connected Seagate GoFlex Desk 2TB HDD in an USB 3.0 port. It is detected and shown in 'Hard Disk Drives' tab of 'Computer'. But, when I connected another 500 GB portable HDD to USB 2.0, there is that notification sound of the connection. It is also showing in my 'Safely remove hardware' icon, but not visible in 'Hard Disk Drives'. Please help with the issue.

I think the drive is not configured for windows to use. Is that drive recognized on an other computer? If not, you need to go into Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management, and set up a partition and format the drive.

In the Disk Management it shows - The disk (500 GB HDD) is offline because it has signature collision with another disk (2 TB HDD) that is online.

Yes... festerovic is correct. I am ASSuMEing it is a new drive with NO previous data on it. If you do as I stated with a drive with data on it, it will erase everything.

Although, if the drive was working on an other computer and has data on it, I'm not quite sure why Windows would not recognize it as an available storage device.
