Can I have two wireless routers connected to the same modem at opposite sides of a house with different SSID's and passwords?

Solution
If it is a router it will work fine. You can either run both the other routers as routers or AP and set the SSID,passwords and radio channels in whatever is most effective for you. I would recommend you run the 2 secondary "routers" as AP just to make things simpler. You will get easier communication between devices if they are on the same IP network and port mapping will be simpler. It will work perfectly fine though if you want to run them as full routers. AP/Router decision has no impact of how you setup your radios in the device that part is the same.
No and Yes.

It really depends if the device you call a modem is only a modem or is a router/modem combined. The major issue is that most ISP will only give you a single IP address and if you hook 2 routers to a modem you would need 2. Some ISP you could pay for second if they offer it.

Now if the device you are talking about is actually a router or if you could plug the second router into your first router then it should all work. You can use different SSID and passwords. The IPs you use would depend if you have the devices configured as a AP or a router.
