they do. All forums stated that this issue is caused by power not being delivered to the video card. I've had no problems putting even high end gfx cards into stock i5 dell before.

if you say so.....

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers

store bios have absolutely nothing to do with it. I've upgraded many people's store bought pc with new, completely different processors, ram and video cards. It has nothing to do with the store bios. In my own old dell rig i upgraded from a 800mhz fsb pentium dual core to a 1333mhz core 2 duo which is in a completely different sku and model. The pc world is not like apple in any way and you can in fact upgrade oem pc's.

alright, lets do it the hard way.

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1998320/put-gtx-... was able to get it working

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacem... able to get working

many nvidia as well as amd cards work in non custom pc

for example agaiin

I went through 3 complete upgrade cycles with my current pc

1) Pentium E2160 to Core 2 Duo E6850 to Core 2 Quad Q6600 (HD 3440 to hd 5670 to hd 7770) (1gb ram to 2gb ram to 4gb ram)

never said it won't work .. I said to be sure it is proven to work on the model you got first before you spend on it ..

and I guess he can post a gpu-z screenshot here so folks with this model can see the card installed and running ??

just contacted MSI. they say its possible that it could be DOA but im not so sure. I know when I boot up my PC with my VGA cord connected to onboard graphics the screen flickers a couple times like its trying to interact with the card but it fails and resumes with onboard graphics. Ill take a shot of the inside of my PC and maybe you guys can give me some ideas to try before I assume its a DOA

ok think lets say the card needs 150w to work so you got 30w at the pci-e slot [ not the full75] and 75 for the 6 pin psu now do you got the 150 needed to run the card???

pci-e slot= 75w 6pin = 75w 8pin = 150

don't know that's all under hp control they don't have to meet full atx compliance as do the boards we use in our custom builds

there only guaranteed to work as is with what came on them as you bought it out of its box and nothing else.. any thing you do to it is at your own risk beyond that

so if it isnt supplying enough power I would have to buy a new motherboard all together? is there anyway to confirm that it isnt supplying enough power? and my card does have one plug on the top right of the card if you look in this picture. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3uwvikijhoqh4za/2014-08-05%20...

not saying this is your case and don't want you to jump any guns but that's what I did got a nice m-atx and put in the hp case reused all but the os [you will need a fresh copy of windows ] but if they will rma the card and send you another one give that a try and see if it fails the same then you know to move on to bigger and better things from there
