LOW FPS, Is it my system, or just arma 3?

I have a amd fx 6300 and a msi radeon 7850. Ive heard that arma 3 multiplayer servers were badly optimized, and that the game itself was badly optimized. I just built this computer, and you can imagine I DON'T want to have to build another system (intel). I will if I have to,

Will I have to upgrade to an intel system to run the game high-ultra in multiplayer?

Do you think I should wait for broadwell and intel's 800 series gpu's?

Do you think bi studios will release an update to fix this?

It is badly optimized. I can barely run DayZ Standalone (ARMA 2 based) at 45 fps in big cities, sometimes down to 25 fps. When not around a city I can easily hit 100, but anywhere near a city I get big drops. I would get a good Broadwell i5 when it comes out because from my experience it doesn't use my i7's hyperthreaded cores.

Most likely a mixture of both. The game itself is quite poorly optimized as mentioned, but it can push higher spec components than yours. Were you to upgrade you would likely see a benefit, however as Andrew shows it is unlikely to be perfect.

If you do upgrade, make sure it is for a multitude of reasons. If you upgrade, and still see performance spikes in ARMA, you're likely to feel disappointed. However if you play and do other things that will see the benefit, then I would say look into upgrading. Your CPU and GPU are starting to age, so I would start to look around at what can be seen.

For reference, Broadwell is just a Haswell shrink, aimed at lower power consumption with a small gain in performance. In games I would at best expect a few fps over the respective Haswell chip, if at all.

Interesting that you say that. A few months ago when I had my AMD chip and motherboard (FX-8320 OC 4.5 GHz) I got around 18-20 fps in big cities on DayZ and around 30-40 when normally going around away from a city, sometimes touching 50. Now with my Intel chip (4770K @ 4 GHz) I am at 25-30 fps in cities and 60-90 away from cities. I have touched 100 a few times going around, too.

Get a decent aftermarket cooler, and overclock what you have. It should help and is by far the cheapest option. Then start saving for Broadwell and a better GPU.
