New one for me. Just in the last week I've had this start happening - wireless internet connection on my desktop seems to be fine, and then when I'm playing an online game, game will lag and even freeze for a second or two, and I'll see the internet connection icon in the bottom right corner go from 4-5 bars to the little yellow dot (which means there's no connection) and then after a second game play continues (although still lagging heavily.

Homebuilt system includes the following:
- Asus RT-N56U router
- Motorola Surfboard modem (about 2 years old)
- AMD Phenom II X4 840 processor
- Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H mobo
- Samsung 840 EVO 128GB SSD (boot disk)
- Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HDD
- 16GB of RAM
- Cooler Master Extreme 500W power supply
- ASUS PCE-N15 PCI-E Wireless Adapter card
- ASUS 2.4GHz 9dBi High Gain Wireless Antenna
- Diamond Radeon HD 7750 PCI Express Graphics Card
- ASUS XONAR DG PCI 5.1 Audio Card
- Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium OS
- ISP is WOW internet, 15Mbs service
- minimum of 3 devices connected to the router, and as many as 6 when everyone's phone/iPad are around
- the game this happens during is called PowerSoccer

Wireless adapter settings are as follows:
11n Adhoc - Disabled
802.11d - Disabled
Beacon Interval - 100
Preamble Mode - Short & Long
Roaming Sensitivity Level - Low
TX Power Level - Auto
Wireless Mode - IEEE 802.11b/g/n

This started happening maybe in the last 3 days, and there have been no changes to the router. I did try changing a few settings in my wireless adapter, but changed them back after it seemed to be worse. The settings listed above is how it's been set for 2 years with no issues. I did just install the SSD yesterday and did a fresh install of Windows 7. And now I'm actually noticing the connection periodically drop while I'm typing this post but it's not causing any delay.

I ran a speedtest earlier today and it was actually at 14Mbs, which I can't complain about. When I try to do a speedtest now, as it starts to ping the server, I see the connection drop in the connection icon.

Anyone have any idea what the heck could be going on? Very frustrating.

Um, yeah, I realize that. Maybe you missed my question about what on my end could possibly be a problem. As I said, I can see the connection drop at the bottom of my screen in Windows.
