I bought a R9 280x (Toxic) about a week ago, replacing my old Gtx 660.

I've noticed that this card runs significantly hotter and is louder too. I'm just wondering if this is normal for this card, My GPU temp maxes at around 79 degrees and my fan speed maxes at around 74% I feel that poor airflow in my case could be the cause of these high temperatures.

My case is the Corsair 200r and it has a rear 120mm fan, a front 120mm fan and a bottom 120mm intake fan. Any help on this matter will be much appreciated .

Solution
Well AMD GPUs have this peculiar issue of getting into high temps over no significant usage.
Its not good but its normal. Get some more fans in your case, or it might be suffocating the card.
Or you may have to do custom water loop cooling.

I'm gaming when this happens. At rest the card is running quiet at a low temp.

Theres nothing you can really do, you have 2 choices...

1. Downclock and set manual speeds low
2. Try different graphic drivers

On the side note. What are your clocks and whats the ambient temperatures where your computer is?
