Hey guys,

Im moving into a new home office and have a question about power intake. I consider myself a little above average joe when it comes to electronics and want to know if a APC battery backup is necessary/needed?

I plan on having the following devices all hooked up in 1-2 rooms.

2 desktop computers
1-monitor
4 laptops
modem
router
switch
printer
shredder
tv
cablebox
projector
ps4
blueray player
phone / answer machine
surround sound
_______________

* maybe 3-4 more devices will be added over the years

Can I get away with 2-3 decent surge protectors? If this is not viable option, which unit should I be looking at?

The battery backup feature is cool, but not needed.

You have to ask "Do I care if any of these devices suddenly shuts off? If I am in the middle of sending an e-mail or updating Quicken do I care that the PC could suddenly shut down when somebody hit a telephone pole 3 blocks away?" In my neighborhood a power outage is either 60 seconds or 1+ hours. The UPS covers the 60 second interruptions without any annoyances and lets me shutdown things cleanly for the 1+ hour outage.

I personally would have the CPUs, and monitor on UPS #1.
Since network hardware is usually physically separate from CPUs I have my network equipment on UPS #2. This also allows WIFI access for a longer period than the desktops can get to the network.

My home theater is on a Tripp-Lite Isobar surge suppressor.
