UPDATE!!!:
The GPU worked fine on my 650W Ultra LSP power supply, all those people who said it wouldn't, it does. Thanks for helping me though!

I have an Ultra 650W ATX PSU and it has 2x PCIe 6 pin connectors. The r9 280x requires a 6 pin and an 8 pin power connector. The XFX Double D r9 comes with a 2x molex to 6 pin power connector, and 2x 6 pin to 8 pin power connectors. Just writing this made me realize I can use the molex to the 6 pin, use my 2 6pins to make the 8 pin, will this cause any trouble... I have heard the Molex to 6 pin can be dangerous.. Thanks for helping me out! Also is the Ultra 650W ATX going to be able to handle the r9 280x? I have just an AMD Phenom 2 x4 965(I know it will bottleneck)... if so include the PSU you would recommend. Thanks!

I recommend a PSU of at least 550W from Seasonic, XFX or Corsair.
You current PSU will not be sufficient.
Good luck!

Wait why would 550W be better than my 650W PSU?

Can you tell me the brand name and model of your PSU?
Considering it only had 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors, my guess is that it's very bad quality.

Your PSU has 38A on the 12v rail, the 280X requires 30A.

However, your PSU is from a low quality brand, and pulling that much power may cause damage, so it would probably be a good idea to get a better quality PSU, if you can afford it.

That's a very low quality PSU, as I expected. Its also a very old design which explains the incompatibility with new GPUs. Go for an XFX or Seasonic, even at 550W they will be able to handle a 280X just fine. A 600W PSU or greater will be good enough if you'd like to overclock your card in the future. :)

Good PSU? 65 on 12v rail and 750 Watts, but is Corsair a good company? It is also cheaper than most XFX PSU's and the power is way more.

Corsair is a good brand, but the CX series are quite low quality. Bad capacitors, coil whine issues, etc.
I'll find you a better choice. :)

Well, my 650 W ULTRA LSP is working just fine, with just 8 amps more than minimum, I haven't, and won't, try to overclock, but anyone wondering if it does work, it does.

Yah I knew it would work, but it's a bad PSU. It's like having a bad heart in a healthy body. There is a very high chance it'll pump bad blood (noisy, ripple infested power) to your precious organs (expensive components). :p
