Hello. I am using a friend's old laptop, a Gateway NV53. I wanted to download ATI's new AMD graphics card driver for the system since it hasn't been updated since 2009 and my Steam game was not launching. The original driver was the AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200. I went to ATI's website and chose the "automatically detect and install" option. It found the best driver to install and I went with the "Express" vs the "Custom" route. When it was almost completed, I got blue screened. The computer restarted and blue screened again, so I chose to restore the system and it booted up fine. A recommended solution to avoid the blue screen was to uninstall the old driver before installing the new one. Trying to figure out how to do that (I am not tech savvy at all...) I accidentally uninstalled the graphics card from the device manager. The screen shrunk and there are now huge black borders. I tried to just go install the drivers from ATI as before but now it says it cannot recognize any graphics card/drivers. I attempted contacting Gateway for support but they require the computers serial number which I don't know because the sticker on the bottom of the laptop has been completely worn away. Does anybody know what I should do from here? How can I reinstall my graphics card so that I can go get the updated drivers so that I can launch my Steam game? Thanks for you help!
