It depends there many types of AA 4xmsaa is bit better . Smaa don't eat much fps comepared to Msaa .

at 1440 high AA is not really needed , it depends on you . you have good gpu r9 290 . work it out and see what's best AA for you .

Isn't SMAA less taxing on your GPU, so would be better, but I think it is only supported on the 900 series.
