Making computer Quieter

Hi guys,

I wanted to know what would make my rig quieter. My budget is around $150 AUS dollars. I would like a good quality brand that lasts for a while. I was thinking of the noctua nh u14s.

Well, what is the cause of your noise?
Even if you replace your CPU cooler, it might be you HDD, case fans, or even GPU that are noisy.

If you actually know that your CPU cooler is the one producing noise, let us know, so we can look for the most "silent" options.

Well if it was the GPU or hard drive how could I lower the noise levels or if it was the case fans what would you recommend?

It`s a lot to discuss in we will start on how to silent each part individually.
Try to find out which component is the culprit, and we`ll take it from there.

How though? I don't understand how I'm meant to find out what the noise is and which component it is.

Open the case panel, start the computer, and listen carefully in order to pin-point which component is the noisy one.
Then we start talking about what can be done.

Well I'm pretty sure the cause of the noise is the case fans. Although the fans are pretty quiet, I would like to make it even quieter.

If the case fans are the noisy ones, replace them with something more silent.
Check the size of your current fans, and look for better ones, like the ones produced by Noctua or Corsair.

If you know their sizes, let us know, and we can give you some recommendations.

Also, if your fans are connected directly to your PSU and not to your mobo, they will run at full speed all the time, hence the noise.
You might have good fans, but need a fan controller to be able to set the fan speeds by yourself.

There are two ways to make a computer quiet

1/ select components from day one with the intention of building a quiet pc

2/ buy long cables and put it in another room
