I currently have about 100 users set up on a Exchange 2007 server.
These users have email addresses of joebloggs@madeuporganisation.org.uk

My organisation has taken on a few members of staff to head up a new side project. They are a separate organisation to the main company, and are based off site. They already have a website and emails are hosted on that domain at the moment, but we want to move their emails onto our server so they get better functionality. Their domain is sideproject.co.uk.

We have OWA running on the server, so they will connect through this.

What steps do I need to take to add sideproject.co.uk as a second domain on our Exchange server?

Separation within the Outlook address book is not necessary.

Many thanks,
Graham

You need to add trusted domain to your exchange and change MX record on "sideproject.com" DNS to point to your exchange server.
Then create seperate OU in AD for sideproject and set up email address policy in exchange to give out sideproject.com address only for that specific OU. Also make sure your current address policy doesn't give out you addresses to new users.

Obviously you will have to recreate all sideproject users/mailboxes on your server too.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Is the trusted domain just Accepted Domain in the EMC, or do you mean a new domain within Active Directory?

Also, I can't see how I can create new mailboxes in EMC without them being given an address from the primary domain. Nor can I set up a new E-Mail Address Policy and select only the required users.

OK, so I've done the following steps:

- Added sideproject.co.uk as an Accepted Domain in Hub Transport
- Created user JoeBloggs in AD.
- Created email address joebloggs@madeuporganisation.org.uk using the deafult Email Address Policy
- Manually added SMTP address for joebloggs@sideproject.co.uk, and set as Reply address.
- Removed @madeuporganisation.co.uk email address.

So, now email I send from JoeBloggs appears from joebloggs@sideproject.co.uk, but I can't send to that address.

Is it now just a case of changing the MX record for the sideproject.co.uk domain to point to our server?
Is the MX record held with the company who host the website for sideproject.co.uk?

Thanks,

Graham.
