I was just about to order a xfx r9 290 but digging a little bit I found out their customer service is garbage. Okay so I checked most other companies and it seems most (msi, gigabyte, sapphire etc) aren't much better it seems like asus is decent and evga is well amazing. The problem is that the asus direct cu ll cooler for the 290 is well garbage. Then obviously evga only makes Nvidia cards so I can't get a 290 from them so I was wondering, do you think I should get the evga 4gb 770 superclocked. Thx?

More about : 290 4gb 770

Sapphire is pretty much amd's EVGA. Get 290 Tri-X or Vapor-X and you are all set.

Also 290 runs circles around 770.

evga is obviously amazing… but sapphire and msi are great too. if you search hard enough you will always hear about someone not happy about company x y or z. evga 40%(nvidia), sapphire 40%(amd), msi 20%, and gigabyte 20% sell about 80% total of all video card manufactured. asus sells about 10%, and the 10% left over is sold by all the other companies you see. i would always prefer one of these 5 companies if i had a choice.

the r9-290 is notably superior to he gtx770 in every single way as far as gaming performance. look for the sapphire tri-x or the msi gaming models… they are far too close in price to the 4gb models of the gtx770 that there is no point in going for the 770 unless you are trying to run sli, which is a stretch.

A lot of you guys are recommending msi and sapphire but when I look online for there customer service reviews all I see Is bad bad bad. Meanwhile asus is so so, more good than bad and evga again is just perfect. Like isn't msi notable for having terrible customer service. As for sapphire of the Few reviews I can find almost all of them are bad, hour hold times and customer service doing everything but blaming the card. Then major complications after Rma like the card still not working it all seems a bit iffy. Anyway I'm just wondering have you yourself had any good/bad experiences with any company if you could let me know that would be great. Last thing I would like the card to be preferably solid black but if not black or red. Thx

Update :sorry forgot to say this but sapphire is out of the question either way because it is almost 3 slots high. I would only like a 2 slot card

What you read about MSI I would say is correct but about sapphire I would personally disagree with due to my own experience. There customer support, sure its not 100% but they get the job done and that's all that matters to me. Asus does have good customer support, but the coolers for the R9 290/X are pretty bad.

You could go with this PowerColor card its and very good cooling almost as good as sapphires

Hope this helps :)

i personally had an hd7950 die on me in january 2014 and msi cut me a $320 check within weeks… no phone calls, just filled out the online rma and sent it back. i actually made money since i bought the card for $260 plus got crysis 3 for free back in feb13. that was my personal experience and it was painless and fast.

at the time the bitcoin thingy had depleted stocks of 7950/7970s and pushed their prices through the roof. so i sold a nintendo wii i wasn't using and just upgraded to a 780…. 290s at the time hadn't come out with their aftermarket coolers so i didn't have a choice but to go with the 780.
