Between these two I cant decide.

I5 I can pick up for 799. and the I7 I can pick up for 899

Cpu boss shows that the I7 is double the speed

however the I5 has the nvida 850M chip witth 2gb ddr5

The I7 has the 750M but has double the ram but idk if it is gddr5 or 3 vram.

If its gddr5 would it beat the 850m with 2gb? or what is the extra 2gb of ram going to help with?

This shows it as ddr3 , gddr5 what does that mean? half and half lol

Thank You,

It really depends on the card. Usually, more than 2GB VRAM is used for extra display monitors and in some cases, it can increase performance. However, this increase would not outperform another card completely like the 850M.

For LoL, you should be fine, but I'd get a laptop cooler either way. LoL isn't a particularly demanding game so your laptop won't overheat unless you push it with multiple applications.

Hmmm.. The i7 would be better, but it really depends on your priorities. The 750M is more than capable to run LoL on high settings and the i7 would be perfect for running VM. The 850M would be needed if you wanted max-out settings and you wanted to play other GPU-intensive games.

The 2GB DDR5 on the 850M is still a better GPU then the 750M. The extra VRAM doesn't equal to higher clock speeds, but it's necessary for other GPU-intensive tasks.

If you're focused on purchasing a laptop to play games, the 850M with the i5 is better performing gaming laptop compared to the i7 750M.

If you're processing and rendering videos or using your laptop for CPU-intensive applications, the i7 would be the best choice.

Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Would there be in situation where the 750M would out perform the 850M ? when would the extra 2gb help and is it gddr5? like maybe brute forcing passwords? or bitcoin mining. Also which one would be better for linux? Ill have to install the non free driver of course cause its nvidia but do they support linux? I play league which is all I really care about it playing but they are about to bump up the graphics and I don't want this laptop to catch on fire if you know what I mean. want it to stay cool. Also Ill be running VMs on it and of course the I7 is better for that but is it worth taking the hit on the graphics card?

The only way the 750M would outperform the 850M is if it were outputting to a much higher screen resolution like 4k. But even then the 750M is so weak that the difference might not be that huge. the difference in Memory only affects the output bandwidth - that is to say how much pixels can be let out after processing every frame, the more memory the higher resolution.
brute forcing passwords requires CPU power but even then unless the PW in question are longer than 7-8 characters you'll be there all month. Bit coin mining is also pretty useless with nvidea, its preferred to be done with AMD GPU's since there's a way to use AMD stream processors as actual processors for the mining, whereas Nvidea's cuda technology cannot do this. I don't know about the requirements for linux, but since linux is made to be lightweight, it should be handled easily by either machine.
it Depends on what you prioritise or do the most. If you want to game the most, then get the 850M. if you're going to be trying to mine it won't make much difference but if you do more VM work or PW cracking then you'll want the CPU
hope this helps.
