I am getting a 7970 and a FX-8320 and I am planning to over clock on a 500 wat PSU. I will have 1 SSD and 1 HDD, no optical drive.

There power is this one here - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I could use it until it blows up but since it has 3 year warranty but I am afraid that it will kill my other hardware also.

I wouldn't try overclocking, just running those components on that PSU is borderline.

It is a budget PSU but a good one so it has all the internal protection needed so it will not kill the components. Some OC may be possible.

I will most likely just overclock the CPU and leave the 7970 on stock since it should be good enough to run most games maxed out at 1080p with decent/smooth frames.

I ordered from newegg and I use shop-runner on it so my return shipping is free if I decide to return it. Still will have that 15% restocking fee I suppose.

I might need more input from the community if this PSU will be OK to use or not.

You are looking at around 400watt total system load so it should do it but I would recommend something like a XFX 550.

If it works I'll use it with a slight oc of the cpu and in the near future will get a 600w power supply to replace it with and have the 500 wattage one for back up.

The PSU is not bad, but the 12V ripple suppression leaves a lot to be desired. The 12V rail handles the CPU and GPU so I wouldn't overclock anything with it. I'd get an XFX 550W unit as previously recommended by rolli59.
