Very quick question, I was wondering how you would install the side fan on the nzxt 530, do you screw it from the outside in? so the screw is on the outside and nut on the inside? Or is that not how it works?

Solution

no I don't think so, the fan grilles can only be done at the back i think, cause there are special dents by the back exhaust that allow the grilles to be inserted and not look out of place, also even if you could, that would restrict teh air even more as there will be a mesh AND another grille blocking it so the fan won't draw in as much air as it should

Normally, a fan is screwed onto sidepanel with the screw coming from the outside to the inside of the case. There is not usually a nut, fan screws fit snugly into the fan housing. Ensure that the fan is facing the correct direction with airflow blowing into the case.

well, two contradicting answers doesn't help me much to be honest! :S
Another question I have is if it'd be possible to put a fan grill over the top of a 140mm fan when mounted on the side of the phantom 530. If confused look up the nzxt phantom and there's an area on the side to install a 140mm fan, buut has a grill over the area, so i'm confused as to how i'd install the fan and whether a fan grill will fit! Or are fan grills just for the front and backs of a case?

Thing is i'm not sure whether to get:
1) A 120mm fan, a 140mm to 120mm adapter and then an uv fan grill
or
2) A white led 140mm with a plain black fan grill over the top of it
both 1 and 2 would be installed on the side of the nzxt phantom, but i'm just torn between each option and was also concerned that with the 140mm to 120mm adapter there wont be room for the fan grill!

Which fan space do you mean? you can only have fans at the front, back and top for this case? when you say 'side of case' , you can't fit any fans on either side of the case?

Looking at the manual, it does say that a 140mm fan can be fitted to the sidepanel but there are no instructions so I'm guessing it would be obvious when you look at it. Sorry I can't be of any more help than that!

if you look at the images you can see that on the sidepanel of the phantom 530 there's a mesh area which offers a space to install a 140mm fan.
Skip to 24:08 in this video and look at the mesh, there seems to be holes where a 140mm fan can be installed!

dammit D: I might as well order a custom made one and see if I can get away with it. I want to get the matte black edition of the 530 and get a custom fan grill which is green and uv and put it in the side area of the case. I thought it'd look awesome to just have an all black case with a green glow from the side! :D
