Hi everyone,

After getting bored of waiting for my RMAd Gigabyte p55a-us3 to be returned, I got my hands on a used Asrock p55 extreme. All works fine but putting it together today I find my massive Deepcool Lucifer cooler blocks my main PCIE slot. Ive tried everything but the fins actually rest on my gpus pcb. Ive had to put my HD7950 in the 2nd slot running @ x8 instead of x16 but I got this board as it has 8x/8x sli/crossfire and seemed a pretty good board. I could go for a smaller cooler or water but ive only recently got the Deepcool and having had a noisy h80 in the past, I find it really efficient and quiet. Could I use a x16 flexible PCIE extender cable? I see them on ebay etc but no idea if it would work allowing me to drop the card down a touch. Also if that would work how would I go about placing the gpu if there is already a pcie or pci slot where I would want it to go?

Thanks

The card has to go in the slot it is intended to go in, or it will not mate up with the mounting holes at the rear of the case. You may have to consider a different cooler. Is there any way to rotated the cooler so less of it extends over the PCIe x16 slot?

Bur I have to tell you, that is really an odd problem. I don't think I've ever seen a 120mm cooler that bumped into the gfx card in its 1st slot. Can you post a pic?

I tried rotating it but then the fan rests on the 7950. It is a fair old size cooler with a 140mm fan. I have been trying to think of ways of modifying the rear of my case but I cant say im keen on hacking apart my phantom 410 case. I'll sort out a picture after work. Starting to think a 120mm phantek cooler might be my best option although money is a stumbling block.

Oh, that's right. That cooler has a 140mm fan. It is like this, isn't it? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CN3u9_...
I was picturing it as being the conventional 120mm. That's a new one I haven't seen til now. Yeah, I don't see a solution other than changing boards or cooler.
