I bought some g4me zeros and i loved them. They muffled background noise, were comfortable and had pretty good sound quality. The only problem was the mic didn't work. I sent them back to finally be refunded weeks later and decided to make the better choice get a pair of high quality headphones along with a mod mic or usb mic. The question is now what headphones to get that are like the g4me zeros as far as comfort with the same or better quality and have the capability of being just some plain ole' headphones along with awesome gaming potential. I d like to spend around the same amount for the new headphones (~$200 range), id like to be able to use them in public without anyone else hearing my stuff or me having to hear anyone else's and id like to be able to be totally immersed in my games with mind blowing quality of sound. I know its a tall order but Id really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

I did basically the same thing you want to do, buy a mod mic and a separate set of head phones.
I'm pretty satisfied with my Sennheiser HD 558 http://en-us.sennheiser.com/audio-headphones-high-end-hd-558

It's possible someone else might be able to hear your sound if you crank it super loud and the room is quiet with them, but either way, Sennheisser is one of the top brands and they have other options you might want to explore.

my only concern is the open qualities of the 558/598. I understand how they could be better for my in home gaming but i want to be able to use them as everyday headphones for out in public as well and from what i understand open acoustic headphones are rather terrible if there is a lot of background noise.

Right, I'm not an audiophile at all, so i can't answer those kinds of questions. You might have more luck in the Home Audio forum as well, they're more knowledgeable about audio devices.
