Ok thanks to suggestion for my home ubuntu server (w/ maybe two headless windows virtualbox) and using i3 4330. But looking at the following link

I'm looking at the i5-4440 and both seem to have the same idle wattage usage of 33.6W as i3 4330. So does that mean between the i3 (4330) and i5 (4440), have the same wattage uses? Does it make a difference that the i5 has 4 cores and the i3 only 2? Are these chips considered energey efficient? Well meaning that since im running it at home running 24/7 that its efficient?

I5 overall does eat more watts than the I3 when not idle, however the amount is minimal considering the amount of GHz extra you get. If you want more performance out of the watt cost, the I5 is the way to go, but if you're looking for a lower cost the I3 will suit your needs just fine.

As far as the core count, it does typically make a difference in aplications that utilize more than a single core to process data. (Most updated programs these days do in fact utilized multi-core set-ups.) the Idle wattage for both are the same, so when you're not utilizing the server then both of them are on the same playing field. Also, keep in mind that there are some motherboards out there (Mainly the Green series) that allow you to cut wattage to...

This could be another way to cut electricity cost for the server.

If you have any other questions let me know.
