I recently upgraded my PS3 HDD from 320gb to 1tb without doing any backup procedures first, not realizing that Windows cannot detect PS3 encrypted HDD and I will not be able to use the old (320gb) HDD as an exernal drive to copy the games and other files back to PS3 (1tb) HDD. Will I still be able to recover my files from to old HDD if I install it back to PS3 or will it run through formatting now that i've already installed new HDD?

As long as you didn't do anything to the 320GB HDD since removing it you will be able to insert it into the PS3 and backup your data.

I did installed it back to my PS3. Now it's asking me to put a device with update files in it. It's the same procedure that i've gone through while installing a new hard drive. Will it mess my old hard drive data?
