Yo forums, i am looking at getting a Asus PB278Q. Which is a 1440p monitor, i was wondering if my EVGA GTX 780 SC 3gb has enough to pack a punch. I do not plan on upgrading it. Nor going sli. I am just wondering if it pack enough power to play games maxed out at ultra at 2650 x 1440. I just brought this graphic card awhile ago. If it doesn't have a playable experience and dropping below 30 fps everytime at 1440p, then i'll be returning the card. I know that in watch dogs it i can't play in ultra textures due to it taking up vram. Which is fine by me. But should i just return my card and get the EVGA GTX 780 Ti ?, or just wait for the new GTX 880 coming out soon in September ?

Solution
the 780 or the Ti version would work.. but you wont get the ultimate gaming performance/experience ... Its better you wait for the 880

your cpu also contributes alot of performance so if you could list it that would be great :) but yeah it should be fine at 1440p how ever how long do you have to return it?

you probably need the 3gb vram for just displaying the 2k res then a 6gb 780ti would be better for 4k/2k. I would recommend if you want a lower cost but good alternative for 2k it is the r9 290/290x they have 4gb thats enough for 4k and is just as strong as a 780ti yet lower the price than the 780ti.

Do you think that the GTX 880 will be around the same price as the Gtx 780 ? What would be the average fps with a Gtx 780 at 1440p. If it doesn't fall below 30fps in ultra then im fine with it. And I have 2 weeks to return it.

Sure thing! My pc specs are :
CPU : 4790k Planning on OCing soon/ Cooled with a h220X
Motherboard : Asus z97-w/ With 32 gb of Crucial Ballistx Tactical Tracer
Storage : 500gb Samsung 840 Evo and a Western Digital Black 1TB
PSU : EVGA 1000watts P2
Case : 750D
GPU : EVGA Gtx 780 SC

its risky because the 880 might not be stronger as we don't have full specs but I would return it, then check out the 880's specs if they are not that good (unlikely) then you can allways buy the 780 back, how ever with a 4790k and a 880 you should go around 45-70 fps on ultra 1440p on general games. However games like crysis3 wont go above 50 fps on ultra at 1440p

crysis 3 is one of the most intensive games. The 880 probably wont be weaker.
