I'm building my first computer soon but i'm on a tight budget so i decided to get the Intel Pentium G3258 instead of the all famous i3's. After reading about overclocking this chip I've taken an interest in overclocking it when i do get it but i was wondering what motherboard i should get instead? Currently I'm looking at the MSI H81M-P33 or the Asus H81M-K, also for cooling I'm planning to get the CM Hyper 212 EVO Cooler. Will i be able to overclock the chip at least to 4 with this build?

get the z97 mobo so you can get a better overclock and upgrade to a i5/broadwell later this year. The hyper evo 212 is a good cooler should get you to 4ghz easily.

Thanks for your answer i would def get one of the "Z" mobos but their cost is really out of my budget, do you know if the Asus H81M-K or MSI H81M-P33 is able to overclock this chip with no problem?

you could take a h97 mobo its cheaper but sadly wont get high/overclock at all. there are low costing z97 mobos for as low as 60 bucks..

You can overlock with H81M-P33 or Asus H81M-C,E,A,Plus except for H81M-K. I have the -K version and I'm still waiting for ASUS to release a new BIOS. I don't even think they are going to so I'm looking for an z87 or z97 board

G3258 is a low level cpu.I think get MSI H81M-P33 is more cheaper and more reasonable than z97. G3258 with MSI H81M-P33 can overclocking up to 4ghz easily and stable.

what i said was the z87/81 mobos dont overclock ASWELL as z97 mobos, h97 mobos dont really overclock at all with no heatsinks on the mosfets, vrms, etc. And the z97 mobos/h97 are the only ones that are upgradable to the new chips so that way he doesnt have to upgrade the mobo and cpu this fall.

You realize no one was asking for your pinion about what chips are better and nobody was asking about that was the best path to upgrade this fall. If you don't know the answer to the op's question, go find another place to troll.

Some people are happy to build a cheap system that has high potential overclock speeds, and not worry about the latest and greatest chip of the moment.

I have just purchased the same combo and I am also excited for the OC potential of this cheap setup. I am currently looking for an easy guide on to how to do this, so if I am able to with the MSI H81M-P33, I will let you know my results.
