GTX 780/780ti Reference, good enough?

Hello everyone,
I'm planning to build a green+black themed pc, and if I save enough I might get a 780ti (if not, probably a 780, but the same applies).
For my theme, reference cards are what would look the best, I believe, but I don't know about their performance. How overclockable are those cards with the reference cooler? How loud are they?

If their performance is noticeable different than third party cooled cards, then what card could you recommend that would look good on a green+black build? (it should be a quite common card, as special editions and rare cards aren't usually sold where I live)

Solution
The reference cards are somewhat loud, and do run a little hot, but if you're trying to match a theme, those reference coolers will be just fine.
I wouldnt suggest overclocking on a reference cooler, that's not what they're made for really.
Blower style coolers (the reference coolers) are not as good as open air fan coolers.

Plugging in a GPU means looking at the top of it, so I doubt you'll notice any colored armor on the front where the fans are.
Honestly if you're not all that bothered by a mini vacuum cleaner in your PC, the reference is fine.

I dont know any green cards, but the Gigabyte Windforce cooler on their 780-780Ti is completely black minus the fan centers.

Gotta agree with this guy, the Gigabyte Windforce is a nice completely black card, I have one card with the same cooler and it looks great in my completely black build xD

I've been loking at photos and only reference designs have the green led logo D: I really wanted that ._.

It's really hard to make a choice now (._. )<

Maybe I'll just get a 280x or 290(x), since without the green logo the more expensive nvidias don't really make sense for me, and the reference ones are more expensive, from what i've seen...

The only cards with LED is the reference model I think.

The reason NVidia is so expensive, is
A. The architecture is complex.
B. You receive the luxury of quieter and cooler cards
C. Cause they look sexier than AMD cards.

I also prefer nVidia, but where I live there is a HUGE difference in price between a 280x and a 770 (more than 30%), so the reason that made me still want a 770 was the green led logo, but the reference card is even more expensive than common cards...
Also, a reference 770 probably won't be as cool and quiet as an aftermarket cooled 280x, isn't that right?
And performance isn't very different...

The 780 looks good, but I only want it for its looks, so I don't think it's worth it to pay twice what I would pay for 280x, when I would basically be getting a non overclockable model ._.

Thanks for your help, everyone, I'll try to make my mind soon... If not, I might just wait for the 880... I hope that's a Maxwell, so that the reference cooler would be enough for that one...
But even if it's not, I should see somewhat of a price drop on the older models, I hope.
