I'm building a new computer, is it worth the money to get two r9 290's or two 780's for gaming? I want to play a lot of games, at 1080p ultra settings for the next couple of years, and not worry about fps issues. What do you all think? Is an SLI/Crossfire worth it?

Oh, and I occasionally use some programs like Aftereffects, 3dsmax would it matter...?

More about : worth crossfire sli

For 1080p, no. Those cards should be strong enough to run 1080p for a few years to come. If they dont you can always add a card.
Higher resolutions require more graphics horsepower, thats where Xfire/SLI is needed.

Hi
i wish you told whats your mainboard because some boards support cross and sli and some doesnt also its important to know whats your CPU and power of your psu
whoever i believe for combination of good cost and better performance i suggest you:
main msi 990fx-a GD80
CPU:8350 8 core-4ghz
ram;16 gig 1866 or2033 dual
psu;900w
cpu cooler:thermaltake water cooling
vga:cross of two R9-270X or R9-280 (asus - rog or sapphire trix)
with new changes in graghic chipsets and new generation of hd games theres much better future for crossfire and sli but pay attention crossing cards doesnt mean it would have a good out put for every card i think cross should be finaly with 2 cards and at last use a ssd hard for c drive and see how fast your system will boot up !
